"The painting is a stylized, abstract depiction of neurons in the brain.  Neurons fire in response to external stimuli from the five senses and internal stimuli from hormones, thoughts and emotions.  As people gain more life experience and grow, their perceptions and reactions as well as their internal dialogues, shift and evolve, starting at this micro neurological level within the brain.  
Inspiration and the creative process also begin at this level, and the animal, insect, sea creature, and mythological shapes of the neurons in the painting depict both this process and how it changes the artist’s perceptions and broadens the artist’s view beyond the surface level of artistic subjects and concepts." - Yoshiko Ratliff

My 2 designs for "Old Town North, Stormwater Cover Design Project" were installed. 10 locations (my designs) of 30 are around Old Town North, Alexandria, VA. It's so cool to see freshly cast iron covers (grayish) have started oxidizing in just a week - they are orange now and will keep aging. Big thank you to the @alexartsoffie

Poppies #2 with dragonfly - this is the 2nd painting I used cicada wings I collected in 2021. I usually paint backgrounds with opaque white with a very thin brush to leave my design so you can see the brush strokes, but for this piece I decided to paint with translucent white and a wider brush so you can see through many layers of underpainting. You can compare it with the "Tulips #5" I finished recently. Come see them in person at Studio 203, Torpedo Factory! Acrylic, cicada's wings, 24"x24", canvas.

I collected cicada wings, cleaned and stored them in 2021 to use my paintings. I painted the bee on my new work, but the wings looked flat even though I used some tricks since the background is off white. So I pasted the cicada's wings on the painted wings.

“LAST GIFT”- This painting was inspired by the picture my father took and was the last one he gave me before he gave up photography and many things due to his dementia. He was born and raised near the Japan Alps and he knew the best spot to see beautiful cherry blossoms there. Today is his birthday🎂🎁🎉

It was a lovely reception at Mansion at Strathmore. This is my 4th exhibition at this beautiful setting.

I was selected for Old Town North Stormwater Cover Design Project by The City of Alexandria, VA. They will be installed at the Art district in Old Town North, Virginia.
